Patient Safety & Longitudinal Outcomes
The National Neuromodulation Registry (NNR) was launched in February 2018 and is currently administered by NEC Software Solutions.
Registries provide a platform for the collection of high-quality information enabling the analysis of this data to safeguard patients whilst delivering modern, clinically effective, and cost-efficient interventions.
Aims of the Registry
- Patient Safety: Real-time tracking and device recall management.
- National Dataset: Accurate capturing of all neuromodulation implants and outcomes.
- Tracking & Recall: Fast tracing of device batches, leads, and generators.
- Annual Reports: Publication of annual audit reports for UK healthcare.
- Stakeholder Extracts: Producing anonymised datasets for clinical researchers and NHS commissioners.

The Get It Right First Time (GIRFT) national spinal services report explicitly recommends:
"The mandatory use of the National Neuromodulation Registry for all Spinal Cord Stimulators."
Furthermore, the NHS England Specialised Service Specification includes as a core outcome indicator: "Proportion of patients with neuromodulatory/ITDD devices submitted to National Neuromodulation Registry to include new, revisions and explantation."
NNR Governance Team
The NNR registry is steered by a comprehensive multi-stakeholder governance team:
NNR Scientific Data Access
Access to the extensive NNR dataset for academic research is available subject to NSUKI's terms and ethical approval.
